A Message from us to you
Dear friends,
Firstly, let me extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to all of you who have found refuge here in Crawley. We understand that the journey to this point has not been easy, and the challenges you have faced are beyond what many can imagine. Your courage, resilience, and strength in the face of adversity are truly inspiring.
As you settle into your new temporary home in Crawley, we want you to know that you are not alone. This community stands with you. Here, you are not just refugees; you are our new neighbours, friends, and vital members of our community.
Embracing Your New Community
Crawley is a town rich in diversity and history, and we are excited for you to become a part of it. There are many local organisations, community groups, and volunteers eager to support you in this transition. Whether you need help with learning the language, finding employment, or simply navigating your new surroundings, there are resources available to assist you.
Access to Support Services
1. Language and Education: Learning English can be a significant step towards feeling more at home. Enrolling in these classes can also be a great way to meet new people and make friends.
2. Healthcare: Ensuring your health and well-being is a priority. You have access to the NHS services here. Do not hesitate to register with a local GP and seek medical help when needed.
3. Employment and Skills Development: There are several organizations dedicated to helping refugees find employment. These services can assist with job applications, preparing for interviews, and offering training to enhance your skills.
Rivers LPC: A Beacon of Support
We are delighted to introduce you to Rivers LPC, a charity committed to working with vulnerable women who might be hesitant to approach established or formal institutions for help. This hesitation often stems from the venerable woman’s social or economic exclusion. Rivers LPC is here to support you and work towards your social inclusion while providing the necessary tools and resources to help you lead a more fulfilling and independent life within the local community.
Most of the work Rivers LPC does involves providing information, signposting to relevant services, offering support, and empowering women through bespoke training and community engagement. We also organise workshops specifically for women, along with English language and community awareness classes. These initiatives aim to equip you with the skills and knowledge to navigate your new environment confidently.
Building Connections
Building a sense of community can be immensely helpful during this period of adjustment. Attend local events, participate in community activities, and don't be afraid to introduce yourself to your neighbours. Crawley is home to many cultural and social events that celebrate its diversity. Engaging in these activities can provide a sense of normalcy and belonging.
Mental Health and Well-being
It is essential to take care of your mental health. The trauma of leaving your home and adjusting to a new environment can be overwhelming. There are support groups and counselling services available to help you cope with these feelings. Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Keeping Traditions Alive
While you integrate into your new community, it is equally important to keep your cultural traditions alive. Sharing your culture not only enriches the community but also helps maintain a connection to your roots. Organise cultural nights, share your cuisine, music, and stories. These activities can create a bridge between your past and present, offering comfort and continuity.
Looking to the Future
Your presence in Crawley adds to the town’s rich tapestry of cultures and experiences. Each one of you brings unique talents, perspectives, and stories that enhance our collective community. As you start to rebuild your lives here, remember that every small step forward is a significant achievement. Your dreams and aspirations are valid and achievable.
In closing, please remember that you are valued and welcomed here. The path ahead may have its challenges, but it also holds countless opportunities. Together, we can build a future filled with hope, peace, and prosperity.
Welcome to Rivers. Welcome to Crawley. Welcome home.
With warm regards,
Jeredyne & the volunteers
